Re: Skill points

I kind of think we are complaining too much and a lot of the things are stupid : names and how the checkpoints look(in another thread). We should be thankfull that frozenbyte has created the most beautiful game. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'll keep in mind that my feedback was "stupid&q...

Re: Skill points

I remember people were saying the Thief was the best character in the original Trine and disagreeing with them, but replaying the game now... Yeah, she kind of is. A fully-charged three-arrow shot is enough to put down most things about as fast as they come and her grappling hook makes her great for...

Re: Trine 2 BETA Discussion Thread

There are a couple of things that have been on my mind that I finally got the screenshots to explain with. Here they are. The Thief's left leg is... Weird when she draws her bow, and this is more pronounced when aiming down. I checked the original Trine, and the Thief's leg is fine there. Here's a s...

Re: Trine 2 BETA Discussion Thread

This is something I wanted to comment on, as well. When I first landed on a bubble and attempted to jump off immediately (but failed to make the distance), the bubble did not wobble and instead reacted like a glass ball. It took me a few tries to realise that it was supposed to be a bubble at all, ...

Re: Trine 2 BETA Discussion Thread

"Hammering last Boss" The "Throw Hammer" ability seems overpowered at the snake boss. Just standing at entrance and throw your hammer at the destructible platforms solves the fight. Maybe you can make the plattforms only destrucitble by the boss (especially because "Throw H...

Re: Trine 2 BETA Discussion Thread

All experience is collectable in single player, but some of the hardest secrets are made super-hard. Multiplayer or later-game skills can be used to ease solution, but it's not required. Please note that you can freely go back to previous levels with your current skills - the game just only saves t...

Re: Trine 2 BETA Discussion Thread

There's something else I noticed when actually playing the game: Experience vials. The good: They no longer bounce off characters' heads if they drop from above. Instead, characters just pick falling experience vials. This is very good news. The bad: They're no longer experience "vials," b...

Re: Trine 2 BETA Discussion Thread

Not true... A man can die of cancer. I'm not sure if "of" can be used for environmental hazards, but I'm pretty sure "from" is even wronger. "My great-grandfather died from a landslide" doesn't sound right. "He died of a landslide" sounds sorta alright, but t...

Re: Trine 2 BETA Discussion Thread

I just got the Trine 2 preorder and the game is still downloading, but casting a fleeting glance at the achievements reveals some... Suspect grammar in them. Please don't take this as malicious, but here's what I found: *"Surfboard Master Stand on a plank floating on a single airflow for four s...

Re: Trine 2 Loot

Personally, I've always seen the term "loot" with a negative connotation. I didn't really mind the chest items in the original Trine since their stats were fairly simple, but anything approaching RPG or MMO levels of loot complexity would just serve to bog the game down into technicalities...

Re: Trine 2 with steam

I used to have my games on CDs and paper books for manuals. "Used to," being the key word. Over the give or take 20 years I've been dealing with this stuff, I've out-and-out lost most of my CDs, either lost to damage or plain old lost, as in I don't know where they are. I've lost most of t...

Re: Single Player

No but for real, our gamers are most important for us and thus our VP is in charge of all support for example (you might notice Joel doing a bit support around here too  ) Having been a customer to a game developer who went from having actual developers involved with their community, discussi...

Re: Question regarding Alluring Gameplay trailer :)

Maybe some of our future trailers will feature places seen in the 2010 trailers, so you can see how the same assets turn even better with Trine 2 engine 8) This brings an interesting question to mind: Have you ever considered going back to the original Trine and redoing the old game with the new gr...

Re: Trine 2 with steam

Because it's a good choice for indie developer. Pretty much this. Of all the things I would praise Steam for, giving a reliable, stable, affordable platform to indie developers would probably be by FAR the biggest thing. I'm actually pretty sure that, were it not for steam, quite a few indie develo...

Re: Enemies

Pity. Skeletons were fun to crush underfoot, with that satisfying sound of creaking wood :) As for the bats, I honestly don't see them as such a problem. They were ANNOYING, no question there, but they were never a meaningful problem. Bats were easily dealt with by either firing arrows into the air ...

Re: Voice Actors

The original voice actors for the characters and the narrator were pretty good. It's nice to hear they'll be making a comeback. However, I have to say - it might be good to, you know, give them more to say :) The original Trine had the seed of a very interesting team dynamic between the... "Sim...

So... "The Fireball Spell?"

I'm assuming the answer is "probably not," but will our friendly neighbourgood Wizard finally learn the ability to cast the much-discussed Fireball spell? After all, did he not have three children, all of whom mastered the Fireball spell while they were still toddlers? Wouldn't our surpris...

Re: Character balance and more

This is correct, we avoid using at all any cheap traps or other cheap deaths. We love our players, not hate them 8) This is such a lost art in game design, even today. I still remember all those lovely old DOS games where it felt like the developers were intentionally trying to trick you into getti...

Re: Character balance and more

Annoying perhaps, I'll grant you this much, but they've already said they'll be making saving more "annoying" by reloading you from your last save point with enemies respawned and puzzles unsolved, rather than just shunting you back a bit with nary a walking time to show for it, so that pa...

Re: Character balance and more

@ Mal I've never played Lost Vikings, but could you enlighten me as to what you would do if your combat guy died? I envision the same as what I did when that happened in the original Trine, which is go back to the last check point and resurrect him. Both the Lost Vikings and the Lost Vikings 2: Nor...

From everything we know, it will be on Steam, and Steam does offer pre-orders. I'm not sure about physical retailers, but being outside the US and away from any known retailers, I wouldn't know either way.

Re: Character balance and more

This is going to be completely unfeasible and more of an idle contemplation, but I keep wondering if stronger-defined and more exclusive roles won't make every character more important. I keep coming back to the Lost Vikings. You had one character who could fight (warrior AND archer), one character ...

Re: Suggestions

For me, it was never a question of loading time, but rather a question of interruption. I love listening to the narrator, even when I know what he has to say, and I REALLY liked the voice actors for the three characters. But here's how a typical "quit between levels" scenario would typical...

Re: Suggestions

Being able to quit between levels gets brought up because that's a natural break point for people. When it's time for dinner or bed or work or what have you, people will rarely drop what they're doing and quit their game on the spot. Even in a game that auto-saves progress and can be continued from ...

Re: Single Player

This is unfortunate, but understandable. After all, a Trine with persistent swappable characters is tantamount to a whole different kind of game which requires a drastically different sort of level design, so I can appreciate the problems this poses. Suffice it to say that if more of each characters...
