Once you get to the checkpoint, the lava stops rising, and the enemies are the only real threat. Considering that you get infinite revives, the rest of the tower is trivial to complete. Okay yeah that is weird. Don't tell me the only benefit of preordering was to get a $10 copy of Shadowgrounds, which currently costs $5.

I had a variation on this at some point. It said I had zero flamethrower ammo, but I could still shoot for a good 10 seconds before I actually ran out.

Personally I like how it never fails. If there was a chance it would fail and put you in a dangerous position, you might as well just keep your distance and use a rocket or two.

Brute Slayer question

Is the Brute Slayer supposed to execute without any sound effects? I wish I could hear at least the gunshot, and the brute slamming into the floor, but I'm not sure if the absence of sound is a stylistic choice or a bug.

That's one of the things I like so much about SG. Every upgrade feels like getting a new toy.

In so many other games, upgrading a stat feels like getting a Lego set one block at a time. It only starts being cool when you've got a bunch of them.
