Yeah, I should be able do if you add me as a collaborator. From this page hit Admin -> collaborators then add my username on github (sjthompson).

After that I should then be able to make the initial commit for you.

GPL would be a good choice for this project. It's what the Quake engine open source releases used, as did the games that went open source in Humble Bundle #1.
