Non steam 1.08 patch?

Postby Simplex » Thu Jul 08, 2010 10:57 am

Hello,

Why you don't post info about new Trine patch on your own forum? Shouldn't that be the place when such info appears first?
Anyways, I wanted to ask what is the ETA for releasing 1.08 patch for those who did not buy the game on steam (I used D2D)?

* tweaks the last level once again, now no enemies on Very Hard (for the Achievement)
* fixes minor item description text errors

What was the change related to antialiasing? From what I understand, a new mode (8x) was added, am I right?

Heh indeed. Things have happened a little fast again so I forgot to post about the patch here. It should be released within a week or two. I can create a special version if there's a big hurry for it, it's rather minor patch for most.

The antialiasing method was changed "completely", which means that it works differently than the old one (in other words, it's slightly better and more visible). And it also goes up to 8x and even 16x if I remember right.

Cool, thanks for fast explanation. I hope the patch will be available soon for non-steam users :)

I have to say I do not like the idea of making difficulty levels easier. I don't mind if "easy" or "normal" gets dumbed down, but what's the point of having "very hard" if it too is made easier? IMO there ought to be a "very very hard" that would be left untouched no matter what. Fortunately the new patch is mainly a minor tweak so installing it is not a necessity for people who do not use Steam.

Actually there are options to make it like it was in the 1.05 patch. ( "bossarea_enemy_difficulty_limit = 4" which will then have skeletons on all difficulties, new default is 3.)

Here's the "changes" to Tower of Sarek:

1.00 - release
1.02 - slightly slower lava rise speed (except Very Hard)
1.05 - much slower lava rise speed (except Very Hard) + added skeletons
1.08 - removed skeletons on Very Hard (to make the Steam Achievement the same as it was at release)

So in fact, Very Hard has only had one change - the skeletons, and we have now reverted it back to what it was originally. It is the best solution in this case in our opinion, but in the future we'll try to get things 'right' from the get-go so that we don't need to tweak things so often...

How is the non steam patch coming? When realistically can we expect it?

I'll make a beta version available by the end of the week. Proper release probably next week or so, we just need to coordinate it with a bunch of distributors first...

Me and my promises... I'll try to make it tomorrow finally. The whole PS3 save fiasco consumed most of my energy last week. :wink:

Ok I've got a beta patch here. This can be used if you're impatient and/or want to test, but it's not the final version and it will still change (and thus is not suitable for mirroring etc).

No idea. It depends on how fast various distributors provide their files (and that depends a bit on myself too). So it can happen by the end of the week or more likely next week.

I should say that it's perfectly fine and safe to test/use the beta version, no major installer component will be changed, it's just the little details that we need from the distributors that are holding it back.

So if I install the "beta" patch, I can easily install the official patch, when it comes out?

Yes. The only difference really is the versions that the patch applies to - the final patch will apply to more versions than the beta patch.

There is no option for 8x antialiasing in Launcher.
I believe that it was not implemented in Launcher yet, as there are only these entries:
// ANI & AA
launcher_combo_disabled = Wył.
launcher_combo_ani_2 =2
launcher_combo_ani_4 =4
launcher_combo_ani_8 =8
launcher_combo_aa_2x_samples = 2x
launcher_combo_aa_4x_samples = 4x

The only way to switch AAx8 is via console command.
Do you plan to add this option to Launcher in Final Version of 1.08 patch?

I think that there is one issue regarding AAx8 (and x16).
This mode (modes) influence fonts - subtitles are smaller and not centred. This causes that subtitles are displayed only on about half of screen.

Yeah the Launcher doesn't include the higher settings. It won't be in the final version either, so you need to use the console commands to use them.

The font issue is solved when you restart the game. :)

Again, no patch for the GamesPlanet version yet (the link is dead). Will it be up soon ?

Sorry to hear. We have sent the patch to the publisher and they're the ones who interact with GamesPlanet, so it's out of our hands in that regard. That said, I can help all GamesPlanet customers update their game to 1.08 with some manual work, so simply email me ( [email protected] fb) and we can get it sorted.

I am looking at release notes for the 1.08 patch:
tweaks the antialiasing method, works better now (enabled in the Launcher or "/antialias_samples 8" etc in the game console)
* tweaks the last level once again, now no enemies on Very Hard

Where in the launcher is the new 8 samples option? I could not find it, I still have only "4x samples" in the dropdown menu.

Yeah it's not in the Launcher, you can only do it manually (edit config\options.txt) or via the console commands (F8 then "/antialias_samples 8"). The tweaked AA method is used for all sample sizes though. Sorry! (We were a bit lazy at the time.)

Thanks for explanation. I have one more question regarding AA:
What is the difference between these two options?
antialias_active_samples = 4
antialias_samples = 4

AFAIK after 1.08 patch they're the same. So just put the same number in each and it should be ok. (I think the active one was used in 1.07 and before, and there was some trouble when trying to use something more than what the game was launched with [e.g. trying to use AA 8x when the game was launched with AA 4x], but now with 1.08 the change is instant.)
