There was no response in the tech support forum, so I'll put it here too.
In OS X, Trine 2 seems to completely ignore vertical sync and frame limiting. Changing settings in the launcher, options.txt, or in-game FPS cap and brightness slider seem to do nothing. Only the "target smooth 30 fps" option works, but I'd rather limit it to 60 instead. I also noticed that the cursor isn't locked in windowed mode like it should be, which would normally prevent accidentally clicking outside the game window. Are these known, and if so, are there any plans to fix them?
