Trine 2 won't launch

Postby Mikasa » Thu May 05, 2016 3:04 am

Windows 10 version 1511 64bit
intel 3570K
nvidia 980ti
16GB
samsung 256 SSD

Playing Trine 2 in steam opens the launcher for setup/configuration, but the game won't run after clicking start. Nothing happens, it just hangs there and generates a *.mdmp file.

I went to the extreme, format & re-installed Windows 10 from scratch. Installed nothing else but just Steam & Trine 2. Still not working. Anyone have idea what is wrong?

I'm sorry for the delay! But good, I saw that you sent another post where you told that you found a solution.

If someone else is wondering what could help, here is what worked for Mikasa:

  • Right-click on Trine 2 in your Steam Library
  • Select Properties
  • Click "Set Launch Options"
  • Write the following inside the text box:

    Code: Select all

    -disableMinidump

Remember to include the minus sign there as well.

Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers!

Hi,

I have the same problem. Got the game through Origin, not Steam.
I start Trine 2 via Origin, Desktop Link or exe in the folder, and as soon as I start, the screen goes black, and that's it. It can only be killed in the Task Manager (where it it doesnt show any activity, and stays at 162 MB).

Windows 10 1511
16,GB
MSI Nvidia GTX 970

- upgraded drivers, downgraded drivers, set to nvidia drivers recommended from MSI
- tried this command option you suggested before
- changed resolution, windowed, full, all options from the launcher
- disabled antivirus, firewall
- set run as administrator and windows 7 in compatibility mode options

Nothing works!! Please help!!

Best regards,
FF

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the game, but please still try if the following workarounds would help. You don't have to try the ones you did already.

1. Disable Origin Overlay
Please disable Origin's Overlay from Origin's settings just in case it's interfering with the game.

2. Delete options.txt
This will reset the game's settings which might be helpful. You can find this file simply by pasting the following to Windows Explorer:

Code: Select all

%appdata%/Trine2

You can simply try to start the game after doing this.

3. Check Your Security Programs
Sometimes just disabling your antivirus might not help if the program has already blocked the game. So, please try to add Trine 2 to your security programs' exceptions.

4. Reinstall the Game
If nothing above helped, please also try if redownloading the game would help. Remember to also try to launch the game through it's folder after doing so.

I hope this helped, but let me know if you have any questions or just how it goes. Cheers!
