Trine 2 Europe CE work in US players?

Postby moho25 » Thu Mar 15, 2012 3:23 am

If I can get ahold of a European-release boxed CE of Trine 2, will it work in US DVD drives, or am I going to run into the issue where the player is from the wrong "region" and won't read the disk properly?

Thanks!

Hi there moho25.

I dont think DVD drives have region coded into them, its mostly in discs. DVD players on the other hand can have this restriction but i've never heard of drives that have this "feature".

Just in case i suggest you try googleing your DVD drive. Its never a bad idea to be sure about these things :)

Ps. We've had two different regioned Trine 2's in our testing (SCEE = Europe and SCEA = America) so im pretty sure that the region is on the DVD disc :)

As this is about the PC/Mac DVD version, it will work universally in all computers. So no problem with that - and even in the unlikely case of a faulty disc, you can activate the game on Steam with the key provided in the box and download it that way. (The retail version of Trine 2 requires Steam.)

Thanks for the quick and thorough replies :]

I'm glad that you mentioned that the retail, boxed copy required Steam. I've been waiting for the non-Steam version of the game, and also prefer physical copies, so I thought that finding a UK boxed version might be the way to go. Plus I wanted the Collectors Edition stuff

I guess I'm back to waiting to the DRM/non-Steam version. I know that you guys have been busy moving into the new HQ and stuff, but is the non-Steam version due any time soon? Been over 3 months since release :(

Yeah that's understandable.

The DRM free version is coming "soon", but that's of course a bit vague. There's a few things we want to get done before that but hopefully they go ok and then we'll release it. For the ultimate DRM free experience though, Linux would be the way to go - that's coming out sooner, we should have more news shortly...
