Some things... / New Atlantis "Dining hall" objective proble

First of all, let's talk balance among weapons. The secondary function of the Pulse Rifle is way too useful. Killing stronger enemies is easy as you can just wait around a corner for them to get close, then zap them and finish them with the pistol. This renders all use of heavier weaponry against larger enemies obsolete, unless against a group or against a boss. It just makes the game very easy, those big, red guys walking around don't stand a chance.

Also, there's a bug with an objective that never ends. I've forgot which level it was, but the objective was "Go through the dining hall". Even if you do go through the hall, the objective doesn't end.

The secondary fire of the Pulse Rifle is very useful, that's true. If used expertly, I guess it could make the game a bit too easy, but in general I doubt many players feel that way. It might be too effective against Brutes, but often there are some smaller enemies around also, and that makes the situation tougher. So I think you're just too good. 8)

I used the secondary rifle fire only a few times, it is usefull but not as much as you say :P

The first time I played through the game I thought the "Fire Trap" upgrade to the Flame Thrower was an absolute must. Depends on how you play....

I just tested this myself (New Atlantis part 2), and the objective was completed normally. So either you just had a weird bug, or this was mysteriously fixed in the upcoming patch (which I use and which will be release soon).

i think you just did it wrong. it says go through the dining hall, not stand in the middle of it. it works perfectly for me.

No, I went through the dining hall about 6 times before quitting. I even walked around a bit and I found the Laser Rifle, too bad the objective remained passive.

Did you stop at that, though? There is a known "feature" that the objective will not get completed until you get a new objective. I remember we had some trouble with the New Atlantis objectives, so this could very well be the reason. (I.e. going "through" the dining hall actually means that you exit the whole building or something like that, can't remember what completes it.)

I can confirm that there's a bug here. I went through the dining hall once and it worked. I played today, went through the dining hall, and the objective never got marks. I continued getting other objectives until I was asked to meet Arwyn. I couldn't complete this objective — I was just stuck.

Yeah, I've played through this mission twice and both times when it comes time to meet Arwyn at the Atruim Center or whatever, I couldn't enter the room. from either door, the one outside the green house and the other one closer to the beginning of the level. both doors are orange, dispite having the keycard. perhaps I'm just missing something.

Hmm, sounds like the bug is still there then.

As it'd be a bit too difficult to start really debugging this, here is how to fix the problem the next time it happens:

- open the game console with the F8 key
- write (case sensitive, sorry this is a bit tricky):

completeMissionObjective go_to_dining; startScriptProcess objectives_updated

and press enter. It should finish it (just tested myself). However, I'm not sure if this will actually help in getting further, because I can't find any scripts that would actually require any of these objectives to be complete before proceeding. So it could be a totally different bug after all...

Nevertheless, here are all the other objectives in this level too (just replace the "go_to_dining" part) - these are NOT in order though, so you have to know which one you're having trouble with:

report_to_shilvich = Report to sergeant Shilvitch in Gaudium Hall
rescue_survivors = Rescue survivors and report to Landing Bay 2
retreat1 = Bring retreat order to the Alpha sector
retreat2 = Bring retreat order to the Bravo sector
retreat3 = Bring retreat order to the Charlie sector
go_to_landing_bay = Report to Sergeant Shilvitch in Landing Bay 2
defend_landing_bay = Defend Landing Bay 2 until dropship arrives
retreat4 = Bring retreat order to the Delta sector
go_to_dining = Go through the dining hall
go_to_research = Find a way into the Research Facility
open_door = Find a way to open the Atlantis Centrum door
find_keycard = Find Dr. Shultz from the Plantasium and get his keycard
go_to_arwyn = Get to the Atlantis Centrum and meet Arwyn
enter_labs = Access the research facility thru the labs
blow_up_wall = Blow up the research chamber wall

I hope this helps a bit!

Also, you can complete any mission in the console by writing "setMissionSuccessCounter 1".

I can also confirm this bug as well. Although I just got burned by it, I can't remember the exact details. You cannot complete this objective if you do not tell Delta squad to retreat first. If you complete the dining room first, the level cannot be completed.

I'm surprised that more people haven't run into this, mainly because the closest entrance to the delta objective is blocked by boxes.
