-Better antialiasing
-Fixed a lighting bug on thief sleeves
-NEW: fixed pad bug. It should now be possible to fire thief bow with pad.

Please test this. If no bugs are found this will become official update 4.

Looking good. The blocky stuff is still there, but I have gone back and installed the Windows retail version and that one has the blockiness, too. However, there still seems to be a difference between Windows and Linux: the Windows version looks "foggy", whereas the Linux version looks kinda plain.

Screenshots from the trine room, maximum graphics settings, 2xAA, 8XAF:

Linux

Hello,

do I have to uninstall the previous version? What happens with my progress in the game?

Thanks

Tried it myself, renamed the trine folder and installed the new version. Saved games remained, I found them in the ~/.frozenbyte folder.

How are things coming along?
Now that the AA seems to be figured out will Shadowgrounds/Survivor also get an update with better AA?

I think I found it. The fog is not a fog effect but rather some kind of mesh which was not rendered correctly. Expect a new update shortly.

Nope. They are vastly different. Trine uses framebuffers and blits. Shadowgrounds Windows versions draws everything to front buffer and then blits to a texture. This is slow and porting it directly to OpenGL would have been pretty hard because EXT_framebuffer_object and EXT_framebuffer_blit extensions are a bit of a mess. So Shadowgrounds OpenGL version uses framebuffer objects to draw directly to a texture. To get AA we would have to draw to a separate framebuffer and then blit to a texture.

I don't want to go messing around in that code any more than I have to. Hopefully Frozenbyte will get the Shadowgrounds OpenGL source released soon so someone else can (try to) do it.

We'll get the source code out shortly so if somebody's interested they can have a look.

Will this unofficial update 4 become an "official" update and be available from our Humble Bundle pages?

Since no-one has complained that it doesn't work and there are no new bug reports... Sure. Just sent it to FB.

I don't want to be pushy, but it's been well over a week, and it isn't on our Humble Bundle pages yet.

Just in case anyone is wondering: we sent the new version to Frozenbyte on June 17th. However from what I understand, right now they are extremely busy finishing Splot and Trine 2 so there can be some delay. For the time being you can still download the update from Alternative Games' site (http://alternativegames.net/temp/trineU ... pdate4.zip).

Yes, and I think we've sent it forward as well. I'll make a note to double-check this on Monday.

I think maybe it needs to be resent to the folks at Humble Bundle, because it isn't on our Humble Bundle pages yet.

Yeah they're busy with HiB3 at the moment. Hopefully they'll add it when it ends...

Yeah, I saw that the HB #3 had come out, and I thought: "Ah, that explains why they may not have put the Linux update up yet, they were busy on this".

Speaking of the HB #3, I thought the games were a tad disappointing this time around. I do enjoy Crayon Physics Deluxe and And Yet It Moves, but there weren't any games that just jumped right out at me that I really loved. Unlike the previous bundles, with World of Goo and Gish from HB #1, Braid from HB #2, and Trine from HFB.

Just checked... and the Linux update #4 is now in the Humble Bundles... good to see! :)

Yep it's there now. :) And I think the Humble Bundles are always a bit of a hit and miss with some people (myself included) - sometimes you like the games on offer more than other times. There were a lot of people who didn't "like" our bundle, for example - if they already owned Trine was a common theme. But still, it's hard to complain for the value. :)

Just tried it and I'm happy to see that the visual glitches (AA + fog) that were present in the first release have all been fixed! That probably makes Trine the most beautiful Linux game out there :-) ...
Thanks a lot!
