Mac: Doesn't work on MacOS X (and fix)

Postby Shiva » Thu Apr 14, 2011 1:32 pm

This appends with both Shadowgrounds and Survivor. Trine is unaffected.
The launcher work, but when using the Launch button, the program quit without any feedback (no message, no error…), just a single bounce in the dock.

My config is a MacBook unibody with MacOS X 10.6.7.

I found a Crash Log inside the "~Library/Logs/CrashReporter" folder:

Process: survivor [67076]
Path: /Applications/survivor.app/Contents/Resources/survivor.app/Contents/MacOS/survivor
Identifier: com.Frozenbyte.Survivor
Version: ??? (???)
Code Type: X86 (Native)
Parent Process: launchd [628]

Date/Time: 2011-04-14 12:12:48.617 +0200
OS Version: Mac OS X 10.6.7 (10J869)
Report Version: 6

Exception Type: EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP)
Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000
Crashed Thread: 0

Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /usr/X11R6/lib/libfreetype.6.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/survivor.app/Contents/Resources/survivor.app/Contents/MacOS/../Framework/SDL_ttf.framework/Versions/A/SDL_ttf
Reason: image not found

Binary Images:
0x8fe00000 - 0x8fe4162b dyld 132.1 (???) <A4F6ADCC-6448-37B4-ED6C-ABB2CD06F448> /usr/lib/dyld

I looked, and I had no /usr/X11R6 folder on my installation (even if I had an "/usr/X11" folder).

I pop'ed my 10.6 install DVD and installed X11, which, if I remember correctly is now an optional install since 10.5 or 10.6.

After Installing X11 (no restart needed) the games started to work properly.

Please add a test in the launcher, to check the presence of X11 on MacOS X, and inform the users of the install procedure.

Best regards,
Shiva

Wow, I just posted about the Shadowgrounds games not launching in the technical support forum and now I find this, which solved the problem. Thanks a lot for coming here and posting about this solution instead of finding a solution, shrugging it off and simply playing.

Will link to you from my topic so hopefully more people are helped with this issue.

Thanks for this! Lots of people have encountered this issue and this seems to work. We are also going to fix the installers but it will take a bit of time, so this will do well in the meantime. Thanks. :)

I have the problem that spotlight is simply not searching, and is not finding anything. It was working up until a couple of days ago, I cannot isolate what I have done differently. Possibly I installed a firmware update, would this cause the problem? I already rebuilt the index once and I am rebuilding it again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, it seems like this is a spam comment. I have disabled your signature. Please let me know if you are a real person instead. I found one instance of the exact sentence (here and here) so I doubt it's got anything to do with our games.
