New French patch betatest

Postby fb_joel » Mon Feb 27, 2006 1:19 pm

Alrighty, French owners of Shadowgrounds should download this

http://www.shadowgroundsgame.com/patche ... French.exe

I would like to know if it

A) Works (i.e. the game starts)
B) Fixes the copy protection issue (with daemon tools 4)

NOTE: This may or may not be the final 1.01 French patch. So don't distribute it until it's 100% sure...

If it does not fix the copy protection issue, then that's about it... in that case we have to recommend that you use daemon tools version 3.7, which works with the protection.

First i uninstalled.
I reinstalled the game then patched it.

When double clicking on the icon, the launch/option window appear.
When clicking on launch, a dialogbox appears "Veuillez inserer le CD 1 original de "Shadowgrounds" ".
I tried with the CD in both of my DVD-drive without any change.

For the record I tried with and without Daemon Tool working.

Hope you'll find something.

hello

Sorry fb_joel...

Your patch doesn't work.

No problem with the insert CD 1 but once again ( i posted two weeks ago the same error message) it says :

"version data mismatch or required date missing.
Make sure you haveall the application files properly installed.
see game website for more info."

then

"Microsoft visual c++ runtime library
Runtime error !
program: c:\program files\shadowgrounds\shadowgrounds.exe

abnormal program termination"

Argh. I need more confirming reports (on clean French installs of Shadowgrounds). Right now I have absolutely no idea what could cause that.

Hello again fb_joel,

I'll give your patch a new try on a 1.0.0.1 re-install tonight and look deeper at the problem.

Keep up working for this worthy game,

Sincerely,

Ghislain

betatest

Hi, I don't really understand...

can't you get a copy of the french game from the distributor instead of trying to blindly patch it ?!

patch without effect

Postby pipo78 » Tue Feb 28, 2006 3:36 am

Tried another clean re-install...
Nothing to do.
Always the same message : data etc...

Just for Info:
- The shadowgrounds.exe is still version 1.0.0.1 after applying the patch.

- The game stops and displays the error message a few seconds after it makes the CD1 spin at high speed.

Any relation ?

Looking forward...

Yes, but we haven't received them yet.

Right now I'm out of ideas. I have triple-checked every file and there is no mistake from our side. I will have to wait for either the final retail copies to arrive, or our publisher's comments.

The exe will be 1.0.0.1 probably forever... it's changed anyway. The CD spinning is due to the copy protection check, and after that it should launch the game (but apparently can't due to some mix-up).

understanding errors

Postby pipo78 » Tue Feb 28, 2006 5:33 pm

Hello.

Here is a sum up of my own problems:

- "enormous lag on levels" with no CD error at starting/
(With original burnt files on french CD)

- "mismatch Data & runtime library" error after CD spin start/
(with the 1rst unofficial patch)

- "insert CD1" error.
(with the 2nd unofficial patch)

- "mismatch Data & runtime library" error after CD spin start
(With the the last unofficial patch)

Some other french people have directly the "Insert CD1" error with original files.

So there's a link between the game execution and the operating system, as the error changes with the configuration...

As you said it may be due to the protection program...which seems to be very finicky!

But i can't imagine installing Daemon's Tools to enforce the problem protection.

So what's next ?

I'm waiting for our publisher's response, again. I don't know the final release date for the patch, because it's totally out of my hands right now.

Just a quick note that this issue still persists and I don't have a new date for the corrected version yet...

Well, there's still no official news, which is driving me nuts too.

But unofficially I can reveal that the upcoming Level Editor release will help in this issue. We have to release a new exe then.

Hi fb_joel,

You might find the following interesting:

I installed the French version at home in the UK and it runs fine (except for the flaring with the 6600GT that I happen to have).

I installed the patch that you've linked to and the game doesn't run and I get a 'version missmatch error' that I assumed is due to UK OS?

I uninstalled and reinstalled (game runs fine) I then install the French 1.01 patch from filefront.com and I get the insert cd1 message (game won't run with correct cd in drive).

I hoped this might help in somehow?

Thanks for your work
All the best

Bill

Bill, thanks. I know this happens, and the first one was our mistake, and the second one was the publisher's/copyprotection plant's. There aren't any OS-related checks in the game or the protections (as far as I know).

The upcoming Level Editor will most likely have a fix for this issue. It shouldn't be too long now...

(You might want to download the new nVidia drivers to see if the 6600 problem is gone - the drivers should fix it.)

Thanks for your candour, Joel

New drivers fix the flaring issue with the 660GT as you suspected.

best of luck

So when shall we grab a working patch ?

Postby pipo78 » Wed Mar 29, 2006 10:38 pm

It's been a long time...

Still Can't normally play with Shadowgrounds.

It becomes frustrating, irritating...and therefore boring!

Maybe you should pay attention to some other game and not wait for the Shadowgrounds patch. This shouldn't be like this, since you have paid money for SG, but doing something else than waiting may just make the time go faster.

We're planning to release the Editor tools in 2-3 weeks, so that will solve the problem... Keep the faith.
