NOTE: Crash bugs hopefully fixed

Postby fb_joel » Thu May 18, 2006 3:39 pm

With big thanks going to Zeus, we have been able to identify and fix at least some bugs that affected the PDAs/map/upgrade screens, and perhaps loading screen and something else too.

It takes a while to get a test patch out but I'm hoping for tomorrow.

Although it didn't really affect me, it's great that it's solved!

Issue #1:

LOL for some reason Dr.Watson didnt pic up the PDA crashes LOL :shock:

However I do have a General alt - tab crash i experienced that i was able to log with Dr.watson. The game (at least on steam version) dosnt like being minimized some times. Its tricky to catch, however, i got it.

http://us.f13.yahoofs.com/bc/44696b18_2 ... +tab+crash).log?bf.jIbEB_f6AG9Ce

I have the steam verson so I couldnt use the new patch with the debugger info. Me being my persistant self, tryed to get it to work anyways on the steam version. However that only resulted in a crash in the beginning of the game :roll:

However, i managed to do it the old fashion way, few tweaks here and there in da Registry.

I have the user.Dmp file, however its like 333 megs. Dont really have any other debuggers on this pc. Visual Studio would make them smaller for sure.

I could try to compress it. Try...and try some more, but it will still bel ike 250+ megs.

Oh well...heh. I dont know any webhost that will accept a upload of 250+ megs.....sighs.
:?

BLAH! :!: Shoots me self in da feets :!: LOL

Im a vent my frustation on some more Aliens. :twisted: :twisted:

Issue #2;

Anyway will there be a better weapon binding GUI? I Edited Keybind.txt. However the weapon numbers dont match up with the ones posted here:

http://www.shadowgroundsgame.com/new/in ... ge=weapons

As you can imagine, its kinda difficult to alt tab, go the keybind.txt, go back to game, figure out what "weapon_7" is, go back edit Keybind.txt agian, and so on.

Especialy with da new crash I found arg...
:?

Im a big Quake / Unreal Fan heh. So weapon binding is like key. It applies in this game too tho.

Switching from the Pulse Rifle's Secondary fire to another weapon like da Lazer Rifle is a great example.

However I can see how hard it is to find these errors. There really are quiet random. Been through like 1/2 of the game with only 2 crashes so far.

And i was only able to catch one of them blah....

Thank for da support and responses.

This is the most open Dev Forum I know of! Cool Awesome game.

I'll keeps yas updated.

Peace

Alt-tab is a somewhat known problem...

Anyways, not a very good idea to try to haxor the Steam version, heh. Sounds like your dump file is a bit damaged or something. Usually it's only like 50 kB or so.

This should be the correct weapon order:

weapon_1 = Pistol
weapon_2 = Pulse Rifle
weapon_3 = Shotgun
weapon_4 = Flamethrower
weapon_5 = Grenade Launcher
weapon_6 = Minigun
weapon_7 = Laser Rifle
weapon_8 = Railgun
weapon_9 = Rocket Launcher
weapon_10 = Electric Gun

Please be carefull with this information, because I guess the steam version has no copyright protection and such.

Yes Sir! Your ARE RIGHT!!!

With Great power Comes Great Responsibility!!! :lol:

I understand. The main purpose for this ablity is for error checking, as steam tends to get in the way of things.

Believe me, if i wanted to hack and sell this to the black market, or some other crazy scheme, I wouldnt be so open about it 8)

Bsides I've never done that in the past, and I dont plan to ever. I just happen to know a little more about things cuz of my Technical Background thats all.

So we are cool! :)
