I Love This Game! More Please!

Postby Klixen » Sun May 22, 2016 7:22 am

I've just finished the game and I loved it! I haven't enjoyed a game as much as this in a long time. Congratz Frozenbyte, you've got a real gem on your hands :D

I don't want to stop playing it, so I've just started my second play through, this time trying the non-lethal path (I played a mass murderer for my first run  ). Great fun!

But I really want more of Shadwen, so I'm really hoping we GOG users can get our hands on the Editor ASAP.

Anyway, with that said, I'd like to give a little feedback and make a few suggestions for the next game (please, please make a sequel!).

* Missions/Side Quests. I'd like to have more to do than just get to the end of the level. For instance, there was a Prison level, but no prisoners. I think it would have been nice to have a side quest to rescue a prisoner (you get the idea).

* The ability to knockout enemies. I felt sorry for the guards and I didn't like killing them. I'd like the option to bash them over the head and knock them unconscious instead

* The ability to pick up small objects (like apples and goblets) and throw them to create a distraction.

* Better story. Shadwen's story is probably the weakest part of the game. I'd like to see it fleshed out more.

* Population. It'd be nice to see a few citizens wandering about. It'd add a bit more challenge as well, cause you can't let them see you kill a guard or they'll raise the alarm (maybe we could kill citizens too?)

* More variety of enemies/enemies you want to kill. As mentioned before, I found myself sympathizing with the guards and I didn't want to kill them. But what about an evil torturer in the prison? Or a greedy abbot stealing food from the poor? People who deserve a knife in the back!

* The ability to save the game whenever we like. This is just a quality of life thing. Cause sometimes real life intrudes on my gaming :(

There you go. Just a few ideas. But even if you don't change a thing, I really hope you'll make a sequel. Cause this game is marvelous and I want more of it :D

+ one for deeper story. Take as inspiration Shadow Warrior. It's an action hack-n-slash, yet the story is so good that it's a gem. Action games benefit greatly from putting some more effort in the story.

More functional suggestions:

* Ability to pull / knock down opponents with a grappling hook (true ninja style).

In pre-alpha demo of the game was option to pick up bottles and use them to throw on guards or near guards to create distraction or to kill them. Here you can watch how it looked like:

Game has changed pretty much during whole development time which took a bit over half of year (pre-alpha demo was available since november, if i am correct). If you want to watch more content here are vidoes from pre-alpha and beta demos:

Also here is stealth playthrough of a final version of a game if you would need some guidance on your second playthrough:

Anyway, i'm wondering why many people for first playthrough in Shadwen, a stealth game, take lethal way to complete it instead of stealth. Whatever fits your gameplay style i think :-)

Keep in mind Shadwen has 4 endings, lots of chests with loot to find. You can find up to 9 schematics for crafting traps.

@shmerl, do you want to turn Shadwen into Scorpion from mortal kombat? :D "Get over here!" :D

I'm in my first playthrough and use complete stealth style (non lethal).

Yeah, something like that, but in a more sneaky way. :) In addition to the hook Shadwen can use similar mechanism with some sickle or similar type of weapon, kusarigama style.

This looks interesting. It doesn't fit to current Shadwen game but in eventual sequel this would be nice to have such technique if combat would be added to the game.

I think I have be traumatized by games that require non lethal stealth and now I'm just happy that I can help the grim reaper. ;)

I loved this in Tomb Raider Legend. It was cool to get the enemies to lose their balance, not so stealthy though. :D

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the game!
