Words from a Pirate user.

Postby R3CoR » Wed Aug 15, 2007 3:12 am

Yes, im sorry for the misleading topic. But at first when Shadowgrounds hit steam, i pirated it using cracked steam. Played the game through and thought "What an amazing game" surely when i saw how many was actually making this game. I decided to buy it, even though i completed it already. And started spreading the word amongst my friends, sometimes piracy is annoying, i do know and i fully understand the frustration among the developers.

Anyway, thanks for a great game. Im already on my 3 run now playing on hard and never get tired of it. They got me on my weak spot, a mindless shooter with great elements.

Sales on the game were lower than hoped for, even though you pirated it you should still purchase it to support the developers.

Well he did buy it in the end, so that was what he was trying to say.

I did buy it as the other person said, to show my honesty to new companies and to make sure its good as i think it is. Not alot of games satisfies my needs, and why waste tons of money on games when they dont release demoes sometimes? I never saw the demo of shadowgrounds and im sorry for that. Many people thinks "Why buy it when i've completed it"

To show some damn shizzle respect for the hard working people doing these amazing games. if you like the game, buy it. Thats reason enough.

Seconded.

Too often companies make demos that are too limited to actually show what the gameplay is like. In such cases pirating the game first, and even after completing it buying it just to show the developpers it's a great game is just as good as initially buying the game in my opinion.

Same feeling  You often get stuck with a demo where the tutorial level is in, and some parts have been taken away because its a demo. That does not deliver anything, other than the feeling of being. "Well that sucked" Give the player a chance to get into the plot if theres a good one, and then end the demo. The player eagerly wants to play more

We try to make our demos "good" (a good slice of full game) and there is a 3-level demo of Shadowgrounds available. We also try to give our games a fair price whenever we can.

But anyway, if you buy the game, then that's good enough in my books no matter what goes on before that. :)

The gripe I had with the demo was you played the first two missions, and then jumped directly to the 6th. I feel the jump in difficulty was too steep and would rather have played the third mission, as well as get the option to export the save game to the full version allowing me to continue on level 4.

Ah, could be. Thanks for the feature suggestion too, I think the save transfer should be doable.

Heeh! I've read about games where old saves don't work at all when game is patched. I've had that kind of experiences myself with some games.

I'd have to agree with the OP. I actually got a pirated version of the game, though I simply couldn't buy the game at the time (no stores around). I didn't want to wait after having played the demo. I've picked up the game since, and I'm actually about to start it again, after not having played it for almost a year or so.

While a lot of developers don't like pirated stuff (and I can see where they are coming from), it actually gets them more money from me. I can't speak for anyone else, but I prefer to download a 'cracked' version of a game/app/ or even music, before I spend my money on the actual thing. It's probably because I've been burned once to many times by bad purchases. If the products good, I buy it, if not, I don't bother with it.

Basically, Shadowgrounds was slightly surprising for me (I wasn't a big fan of top-down games). It was easily worth buying.

Good demos that come to mind have been released for Area 51, Shadowgrounds, and Half-Life (Uplink). All of which feature gameplay elements from latter parts of the game, instead of the intro and tutoriahish parts, like too many demos do.
