Glow bug flashlight

Postby raakkel » Sat Nov 12, 2005 8:35 pm

Strange glow effect flicks now and then when I turn off the flashlight everything goes pretty light and strange glow appears. I have 3200+ Athlon XP and Geforce 6600GT.

Which driver version do you have? If it's old, maybe update to a newer version.

I have 3200+, too, as well as 6800GT, so our systems are somewhat similar. Haven't had any gfx problems with the official 81.87 BETA drivers from the nVidia page so far.

I had the same problem yesterday when I played 3 player co-op with my two friends. All the time one player had to have flashlight on so the glow stayed away. In some places it worked fine but in some the glow appeared. But like I said, when someone had flashlight on it didn't appear.

I have GF 6600 and newest beta drivers 81.89, all settings on very high and also have this glow problem. It appears only at places with strong light sources like street lamps.

Exactly the same here.
I've figured out that it depends on the direction you look wether the glow appears or not.
But I also got another problem quite similar to this one. Sometimes the picture is somehow "bend", like with one of those distortion effects. It also just pops up every now and then, and when i turn my charakter around it stops. you can only see it when facing a particular direction, just like the glow. Its not as annoying as the glow-bug, but someone should fix both of them.

btw, I'm also running a 6600GT. Maybe another nvidia bug ?

As some of you have reported here, there seem to be some weird effects appearing on 6600GT series graphics cards... We've finally been able to replace this bug, so hopefully the bug will be squashed soon.

As I'm not the one working on this issue, I can't tell much about what exactly is causing the bug or when/how will it be fixed. It may be a 6600GT driver bug or just some other peculiar feature in that specific graphics card series.

Basically, the bug appears on the GeForce 6600 series. If you disable the glow and distortion effects, everything should work just fine. (Of course, disabling these effects will greatly hinder the visual appearance of the game, so if the bug does not bother you much, you may wish to keep the glow and distortion enabled while waiting for a patch.)
