If ever Trine gets DLCs, it should be...

Postby DarkJee » Tue Jun 30, 2009 4:49 am

Hey, I was just curious to see people's answer. I know that it might never have any additionnal content on Trine and I think that would not be a problem because Trine is already an awesome game that for me, is one of the best game ever!

But I was curious, what is for you guys the most important thing they could add. I vote for level editor (and the last option =P) because the community is big and a lot user-made levels would be awesome!

Personally I wish that Online Co-Op would not be something that we have to pay for, but rather something that gets patched in for free. DLC should be additional content and levels, IMO.

But I think level editor would be more useful. Online co-op would be fun, for the 2-3 times you pass the game with it, but, if you always play with someone you don't know, it could get always the same. I think Trine is really fun when you know the person you play with, when they are near you.

And a level editor, the community would be huge and a lot of level and level pack could be created to make other really cool campaigns like in Portal, when it started to have plenty of user-made levels

Between what I want, and what seems most realistic, I would say extra levels, either as an extension to the existing levels (eg. new levels after the existing ones) or even something like challenge levels, ones that are intended to be more difficult and require alot more thinking than the average level from the rest of the game

I voted additional frozenbytes levels. I'd even be willing to pay for them (like $5 for 5 full length levels or something).

SDK and fan levels are always nice in theory, but I have several problems with it in this case:

1) Frozenbytes has already said the SDK is hard to use and documentation is bad
2) It's multiplayer games that get the most mod support.
3) With all due respect to Frozenbytes, Trine isn't likely to have a large enough fanbase to foster a big enough level-making community (take Shadowgrounds or Aquaria for example. The community has produced nothing yet for either).
4) In general, 90% of everything is crap. It's a general rule to live by. Fan stuff is great, but it's only when a community is huge that there's enough good stuff to make wading through all the junk worth it.
5) I'd far and above prefer professionally designed levels. That's why they're called professionals.

As for online co-op, it doesn't interest me. I've always preferred strong single player experiences.

I would like a level editor and new levels from Frozenbyte..... BUT make it FREE DLC. Otherwise I am not interested.

Level editor sounds good, perhaps along with an official or not so much official community portal of some kind where people can share their creations. I think that should provide enough additional content for a while. If there's a price tag attached to the DLC, it may however be a good idea to add a "sample campaign". But it's of course understandable that this is just wishful thinking, I wouldn't imagine that a level editor would be easy to use for this kind of game.

4) In general, 90% of everything is crap. It's a general rule to live by. Fan stuff is great, but it's only when a community is huge that there's enough good stuff to make wading through all the junk worth it.

Wasn't that the mysterious 20-80 rule which seems to be applicable.. well, just about everywhere? :)

Lol. The poll actually needs only two options. ^^ The most obvious ones.
Not all of you have äää's and ööö's :P

Definitely Level Editor.

A lot of people are really good and creative level designers, and It's really fun to play on User created levels.
Personally, I Don't get why people want Online coop.
All you need to do is get one or two more controllers, and have some friends over. Plus, there is no lag, and all that.

However, I don't think Trine should have DLC, just updates.
But if the DLC is free, than hurray. Frozenbyte is #2 in my favorite game creator. (Next to Valve in 1st.)

I would love a level editor(sounds like it will not happen)
2 expansion packs
I would really like Trine to turn into a new franchise.

if they had professional maps that also included online co-op then definately. A patch just for online co-op no. professional maps / story line later, only if its a lot of content and not too expensive.
